Breast Reduction Plastic Surgery in Fort Worth
Breast Reduction Surgery Overview
Women who are especially endowed in the chest often complain of trouble buying clothes, as well as physical inconveniences due to the weight of their breasts. Problems including back pain, skin irritation, and breathing and skeletal problems can all occur from heavy breasts. Breast reduction surgery can often be deemed medically necessary and unlike cosmetic procedures, can often be covered by insurance.
A breast reduction involves removing fat and tissue from the breast and reshaping them to be sized proportionately to the rest of the body.
Your Personal Consultation in Our Fort Worth Plastic Surgery Office
You will discuss with Dr. Faires how to treat your medical condition while at the same time shaping the breasts to look the way you would like for them to. At this time, Dr. Faires will also inform you of risks and the probable outcome of surgery. Dr. Faires may ask you to have a mammogram done before the surgery.
Information About Breast Reduction Plastic Surgery
This four hour surgery is usually performed on an outpatient basis with general anesthesia. Incisions are made at the base of each breast and fat, tissue, and excess skin are removed. Skin is pulled up over the areola and a new incision is made. The areola is then pulled through the new skin like a button through a buttonhole. Then, plastic surgeon Dr. Faires reshapes the breast and sutures the skin back together. Sometimes, liposuction can be used to remove excess fat, causing only minimal scarring.
Limitations to the Breast Reduction Procedure
Breast reduction surgery does produce noticeable scars and can cause the nipple to be desensitized.
Although incredibly rare, complications from the liposuction (if needed) can include infection, blood clot formation or fat clot formation (which can circulate to the lungs causing death), fluid loss, damage to skin, and burning.
Recovery from Breast Reduction Cosmetic Surgery
For the first week, Dr. Faires will have you wear gauze, a compression garment around your chest, and medication will keep the pain from breast reduction surgery to a minimum.
Dr. Faires will have you wear a surgical bra for a few weeks to assist in healing.
You may have shooting pains in your breasts for the first couple of months following breast reduction surgery, and your first menstruation post-surgery may cause the breasts to swell and hurt.
Breast Reduction Results
Although it may take some time to recover after breast reduction surgery, in a few months, the scars will fade. Most people that have breast reduction are quite happy with the results, as they no longer feel discomfort associated with their chest.
Your breasts will look much better in proportion to your body.
