Eyelid Lift Plastic Surgery in Fort Worth

Eyelid Cosmetic Surgery Overview

By the time we hit our mid to late thirties, we should be enjoying the best years of our lives. The prior decades have offered wisdom that was unfathomable in our twenties and we have decades of life to enjoy ahead of us. Unfortunately, around this very same time, our eyes begin to show signs of aging. The upper eyelids droop a bit and there is puffiness under our eyes that no cucumber slice can eliminate.

Those who are bothered by this inescapable sign of aging often turn to plastic surgery to remedy the situation. Essentially, eyelid surgery repositions fat deposits around the eyes and corrects drooping causing the eyes to look more alert and rejuvenated.

Your Personal Consultation in Our Fort Worth Plastic Surgery Office

Are you a good candidate for blepharoplasty? It is a good idea to discuss this with a qualified plastic surgeon since your specific needs will inevitably be unique. During the consultation, you will explain what it is you would like the outcome of the procedure to be.

Although, there may be exceptions, as a rule of thumb, those with thyroid disease, a detached retina and those with dry eyes are not the best candidates for eyelid surgery.

During your consultation, Dr. Faires will also inform you of the possible side effects of the surgery. Although complications are rare, they may include infection, blurry vision for a few days, temporary swelling around the eyes, difficulty closing the eyes for a while, and small whiteheads (that Dr. Faires will be able to remove). Also, in very rare cases, entropion can occur where the eyelid curls a little, which may require corrective surgery. Activities such as reading and watching television can not be done for 5-7 days

During your consultation, you and Dr. Faires need to thoroughly discuss your medical records to be sure that you are a good candidate for the procedure. Also, some patients want only the upper lids or only the lower lids to be done. Discussing your goals will allow cosmetic surgeon Dr. Faires to decide what maneuver would be the most efficacious.

Information About Blepharoplasty Plastic Surgery

Usually, blepharoplasty takes about two hours and is performed under general anesthesia by the surgeon. The patient is also given a sedative to stay relaxed or asleep. Incisions are made following the natural creases in the eyelids and excess skin and/or muscle and fat are trimmed and than stitched back together.

Recovery from Blepharoplasty Cosmetic Surgery

Five days to a week following surgery, the stitches will be removed. Full recovery should ensue in a few weeks. Immediately following surgery, the doctor will apply ointment and bandages to the treated area. Pain from surgery can be assuaged with medication and cool compresses. Following surgery, you must keep your head elevated for several days. Usually people feel comfortable in public after a week and a half, although activities such as reading and watching television can be done after just two or three days. There is little pain associated with this procedure, rather, the eyes just need time to heal to look refreshed.

Eyelid Lift Results

After eyelid surgery, the results last for years, and sometimes permanently.
